It’s been over 2 years since Cold Iron Studios first teased the follow-up to “Aliens: Fireteam Elite” when Elena Siegman and Kendall Deacon Davis were announced to be joining the studio, with the announcement promising fans a follow-up to Fireteam Elite for “fans to sink their teeth into.” Since then, it’s been radio silence, with comments picked up in various financial and stakeholder.
Alien Day 2026 came and went without any news on the follow-up, but barely weeks later, we’ve now received the news we’ve been waiting for! “Alien: Fireteam Team 2” has been officially announced, alongside an announcement trailer!
The sequel will be adding a fourth player into the mix, bringing our squad of Colonial Marines up to the more expected 4 players. Throughout May, IGN will be sharing more intel on Colonial Marine classes and new Xenomorph types, as well as more gameplay and their own hands-on impressions.
Alongside the trailer, IGN have shared 6 screenshots from the game, as well as early information on a new class being introduced into the game.
A few details for now, though: full cross-play is supported, and there are new Xenomorph types and improved player classes, as well as the Specialist –a fully customizable class that lets you mix and match abilities from any class. “Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2” will also launch with a Horde mode with dedicated Horde maps that throw ever-larger and more challenging waves of enemies – with better and better rewards to match.
There’s already a product page available for the game on Steam, which confirms the game will launch with multiple Horde mode maps, alongside another 3 screenshots.
AFE2 launches with multiple dedicated Horde maps that push squads to their limits. Battle through escalating waves of xenomorphs and other deadly enemies, earning increasingly valuable rewards as you survive deeper into the onslaught. This is where teamwork and skill are tested at their absolute peak.
The trailer featured a mixture of cinematics and gameplay, perhaps indicating that we’ll see more cinematics in the follow-up. The original Aliens: Fireteam Elite was critiqued due to the lack of cinematics, so hopefully we’ll see more in the sequel. We also saw what appeared to be the Neomorph variation, as well as a new Xenomorph that seems inspired by the later Sideshow interpretation of the Alien King.
Though we’ve not got an exact release date, the announcement trailer promises a Summer release this year, which aligns with the previous financial reports. Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 will be launching on PC (Epic & Steam), as well as Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5.
